It is very normal for newborns to nurse around the clock. Just when you think baby is done s/ he will want to nurse again. It is not at all a sign of inadequate supply. It is because baby has such a small stomach (the size of baby's fist) that just a little bit and baby is full, meaning baby needs to feed frequently to get enough milk throughout the day (and night). This is also about baby establishing your milk supply. Even if you think baby isn't getting anything, baby is not only suckling for comfort, but also letting your body know to produce more milk. By 6 weeks your baby will start feeding less often. For now, keep doing what you are doing. Within a few weeks it will get so much easier! Also, my son was terrible about burping. Just keep baby upright for at least a half hour after eating and try rubbing and patting. If you can't get baby to burp in about 15 minutes, there probably isn't one in there. |
