Question: How many times a day does a 6 1/2 month old baby nurse?

My daughter doesn't take any bottles, so there's no way of knowing how much she is getting. I started her on solids we give her cereal in the morning, and a jar of baby food in the afternoon and she'll eat the full 3 tbsp of cereal and the whole jar of baby food and then she only nursed 5 times yesterday so I don't know if maybe it's too much for her at her age. I don't want her to get dehydrated. Should I keep feeding her this much and let her adjust or do you think it is more important that she nurses more? I guess it is weird also because she has been nursing every 2 1/ 2 hour around the clock since she was born and now that's changing.

That should be fine because it sounds like she's ready for food. If she keeps nursing less than I would talk to her pediatrician. There were times my son would nurse 5 times a day and other times 8 or 9 times. I would wait a few days and see what happens.

It varies a lot. My daughter wasn't on any solids at 6 months and she nursed every two hours during the day and once at night. My son is 5 months and he can go 3-4 hours between nursings and he isn't really on solids yet either. Do whatever works for you and your baby. If she's happy, wetting, and pooping don't worry! You're doing fine.
